31 Movies of Halloween: Day 7

Day 7 - Smash Cut

Smash Cut is a Canadian (yikes!) horror film made a couple of years ago. It is a clear homage to the horror/-ploitation films of the '70's. Yet, unlike films of that era, Smash Cut is made to be "hilariously" bad. That's right, this movie is allegedly a comedy. Bad jokes and worse plays on words are peppered throughout. But the icing on the cake is the absurdity of many of the situations. I can only hope that the piss poor acting was fully intentional (probably...to a point), because, if not, then the filmmakers had no right to make this.

Best Part:
Hands down, the best part of the movie is Sasha Grey. I'm not saying this because she's a pornstar. That usually hurts a movie. I'm also not saying this because that she's hot...which, of course, she is. I'm saying this because she is easily the best actor in this film. I would never go so far to say that she's stellar in her role, that comes down to poor direction, but she has the ability to be a solid scream queen (if not actress) down the line. And yes, she was pretty damn good in The Girlfriend Experience, but that has nothing to do with Halloween, so it has no reason being here.
