New York Comic Con 2011: The Wrap-Up...Even Though It Was Like A Month Ago...Whoops

Oh, hey nerds. What was that? Oh, yeah, suck it.

Why yes, that is me with the lovely and talented Felicia Day (swoon). You may know her as the star of/mind behind the internets very own series The Guild, or Dr. Holly Martin on Eureka, Vi from Buffy, the voice/design of Tallis in Dragon Age II (as well as Tallis herself in Dragon Age: Redemption), Penny from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog, or the many other roles she's played. I'm starting off talking about her because I've had a crush on her since the first time I saw the Buffy episode she premiered in ("Showtime," January 7, 2003...yes, I've had a crush on Felicia Day for nearly 9 years. Shut up). So, I met Felicia Day. She's the coolest. Hilarious. Nice as can be. Totally adorkable. Suck it nerds.

The 2011 NYCC was held October 13-16, and due to having the best comic store in the world, I got a pass for the whole shebang. With the fact that I had three (technically four, but I didn't go Thursday) times the amount of...time...than I'd had in the past, I was able to spread my activities out and not worry about rushing from thing to thing, being angered by lines, or have the constant nagging that I won't be able to do/see everything that I wanted. NOTE: I'm never going back to a one day pass.

Admittedly, I did miss out on the Avengers stuff, but Joss wasn't there, so...

This year was an amazing Con. I had a blast, spent a bunch, walked all day, and my only complaint is that if you're going to stop to check something out in one of the aisles, TAKE A STEP OFF TO THE SIDE & GET OUT OF EVERYBODY'S WAY! Which reminds me: here are some tips to make your (and everybody else's) convention outing a positive one.

1. Wear comfy shoes. Nobody wants to hear you bitch about your feet hurting because you opted for fashionable, yet uncomfortable shoes. If you choose to not heed this advice, suffer in silence.
2. Plan ahead. Know which panels/meet & greets you want to go to & make a schedule. NYCC has an awesome app to do this. It helps keep you from being overwhelmed by the sheer size & craziness of the event.
3. Be prepared. Have a pen/Sharpie/writing implement with you, just in case.
4. Bring some water and/or a snack. It'll save you some money, but, more importantly, will give you the necessary energy/hydration to hold you over until you have the chance to get some real food.
5. Be respectful to the convention guests. Sure, you've read their books or watched them on the screen, but they're people, too. Ask permission before you take a picture.
6. Be respectful to your fellow fans. You aren't the only person at the con. If you see somebody trying to take a picture, don't be the asshole that walks in front of the camera. And for God's sake, get out of the way when you're stopping in the aisles!
7. If you're 21, and they're selling alcohol, treat yourself. You need some downtime, and you probably have to charge your media device. I found that taking a breather & having a beverage can get you in the right mindset to enjoy the con to it's fullest extent.

All I know is that October 11-14, 2012 cannot come soon enough.

I repeat: suck it nerds.
